Let Me Introduce You...
We Believe in Ethically Sourced Food and Plants to nourish our own bodies and minds, so when choosing ingredients for Baked at 420, I wanted to choose only the best ingredients from organic and honest sources.
Since we live in two states, finding ethical food sources is always on our radar. Fortunately, we live in states that have an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables available most of the year. I'll introduce you to a few of my favorite places in both Colorado and Florida. First up, The Boulder Farmer's Market. Located in the heart of Boulder Colorado, the market opens in May and continues to provide fresh fruits, vegetables, homemade breads and baked goods, fresh eggs, plants, and ethically raised beef and chicken that are grass and grain fed, no hormones or antibiotics needed! The garden products are pesticide-free and are organic and delicious. Next up is the Westminster Farmer's Market that is open every Saturday in the warmer months and is located on Sheridan Boulevard between 104th and 92nd in a large church parking lot. Each week local farmers, bee keepers with their jars of fresh honey and honeycomb, and many other venders line the parking lot with their products with the Rocky Mountains as a back drop. Local animal shelters attend to raise awareness of animals seeking forever homes and children and puppies interact. Miller Farm has been a staple for many years and provide bags that can be filled to capacity with as many fresh fruits and veggies as you can squeeze into the bag...for $10! Come January, we head to the West Coast of Florida and we have found many local farm stands in this warm climate but a favorite is Starkey Market, located off of Starkey Blvd in Trinity, Florida. This market can fulfill your grocery needs and has unique and locally-made products as well as local coffee, ice cream, beer and wine! They have everything covered in one stop. Visit their website to learn more about their entertainment offerings. https://starkeymarket.com/ Last up is Ojai Oliver Oil Company, where fresh olive trees line the hillsides of Ojai, California and Oliver Oil and Balsamic Vinegars are created and infused with fresh herbs and spices. They offer a tasting every day of the year for only $10 and have endless choices for you to take home. A family owned business that has been in this valley for many years. The Olive trees are said to have been planted by the Danish over 150 years ago, and the area is still thriving with life and love. Visit the Ojai website to learn more about his remarkably beautiful piece of paradise. https://ojaioliveoil.com/ Lastly, let me introduce you to the Baked at 420 garden that's located in Westminster, Colorado. We are small but mighty and grow cannabis plants during the spring and summer and harvest our crops each fall as the weather cools down and chilly fall evenings begin leaving frost on our plants. We are pesticide free and use ladybugs and daddy longlegs to deter pests from finding their home in our luscious cannabis plants. Fertilized with chicken manure and eggshells for added calcium, our plants are healthy, strong, and potent. Our plants are sourced from several growers that we have found over the years, who grow from seed or clone from their own plants. These local growers are sustainable in that they are growing strains that have been proven to be of high quality and are fast growers that provide hearty stalks that hold up large cannabis flowers. Each spring we prep our garden beds with quality compost from local chicken or goat farmers and start our tiny plants out on their summer journey, often growing from a few inches in May to over 10 feet tall by the fall. The warm days of sunshine and the dry and moderate weather is the perfect environment for growing happy Cannabis plants. Morning sunshine and afternoon shade, seems to be the magic formula for our beautiful plants. If you want to learn more about how to grow and cook with cannabis in an ethical and sustainable way, please reach out and book a class. We offer a variety of cannabis courses and cooking classes that will raise your level from a novice to an expert cannabis grower and consumer. My mission is to provide consumers with ethically sourced and created products that will leave you feeling whole. A wonderful meal, made from fresh food that was grown with love can be felt deeply, nourishing the mind, body, and soul. As our friends in Ojai write, Take Care of the Earth: Instituting provisions for all life systems to continue and multiply. This is the first principle, because without a healthy earth, humans cannot flourish. The earth is our home and we must take care of it. Take Care of the People: Instituting provisions for people to access those resources necessary for their existence. Food, water, and other basic necessities are easier to produce from a healthy environment. With harmony comes abundance. Share the Surplus: Healthy natural systems use outputs from each element to nourish others. We humans can do the same. By governing our own needs, we can set resources aside to further the above principles and help others in need. Thank you for visiting and thank you to our wonderful sources that span from coast to coast and some spots in between. If you find a local farmer's market or favorite hidden gem you love, feel free to share, we are always on the lookout for new places to support and source. Thank you to the farmers, who provide us with life-sustaining, quality food. |
